Now since she is older, approx 6 months, both of her vets believe she has the Lab in her,w/ boarder collie. Alot whose been around her, say they can really see the BC personallity. Very loyal and playful + full of energy. Relatively healthy.

PUPPY KINDERGARTEN

Last night was GYPSYS first day in class. WOW!!! She loved it. She really interacted with the other puppys very well. It is a fairly small class, The trainer is really very thorough and has a beautiful Golden Retriever, his name is Cooper. He is so sweet. He is also on call 24/7 for Search & Rescue.
This my first time ever taking a puppy into classes.... I wish I would have known long time ago of the information and training she has already taught me.
GYPSY hadn't really been to a public place with so many different things in her enviroment before or with so many other doggies. She Was great... She didn't coward to the new stimulation at all. In fact she was the leader in play time... lol she went to greet all the other puppys and those that didn't join in she would slow down and say "Hi." to them again. Getting some of them to join in. I thought that was cute.
She responded well to learning in the very busy surroundings, also. She has been working on her homework too... Me too... I have alot of paper work to read. Commad Names and descriptions, Different teaching games; like the Name Game, Also how important Timing is when training, I am alittle slow so I even have to pratice w/o her ... hehehehe. She responded very well to the clicker, too. I believe we will do ok... She tells me she garantees me this class will help. I already can see a difference. She did like that Gypsy was listening to me before class and after. Made Mommie PROUD. *..*

I also have to Come up with a Command name which will Dismiss her from Traing Time. Know that is a rasy task... But I need to come up with one. It can't be "ok" either, that is to commonly used in our language. I'm still thinking on it.

The trainer says she believed Gypsy would grow up to us a 36" create. So that is what I got for her. I did get a crate because they have the divider in them... Gypsy has done great with house breaking/ and potty training. The divider is used to make the area for the puppy to be in for her to have enough room to lay down in and then she won't go to another area to go potty, inside her kennel.

I best go study while Gypsy is napping.

I forgot to add... One of the main reasons although dealing with Gypsy becoming car sick. And too wanting to get her to PUPPY KINDERGARTEN CLASSES... Is because she had learned she has already become stronger than I am. She some how learned she could snap the leash with the lunge of her weight and she would be loose in the yard. Thank God I do have a fenced in yard. But for her own safety felt like I need help learning how to train her much better.

I am so glad I fond the class. It is through PETSMART. They are great.

Also, speaking of Gypsys' car sick issue. She did pretty good. It isn't a very ong trio, so works out nicely. I Got a double bonus of not feeding in afternoon nor her evening meal.
As the trainer did say, as I learned too from Gwen, better training when they are hungery... Because they really want that treat.

The treat I used in class was extra yummy even better than the ones I had been using. This one is like chicken strips soft and can be cut and broken into smaller peices about the size of an eraser on a pencil.

This has worked alot better than how I was using her kibble of her PUPPY CHOW. I also found some nice size puppy milk bones She really likes as a treat too. I use those for night time snack, and when she has been extra good (All the time ) but is specail treats for her. There are several others but thosse are gypsys favs.

Tonight was Gypys' 2nd class. She did pretty good... She was excited to get to see her puppy friends she made last week.
She really wanted to play... hehehe We didn't have enough time for playtime.
I was happy to see everyone from last week was able to make it this week.
The class is very helpful to me... We worked on several tasks for us to practice on.

Some I had been working some on it with Gyosy, but by far I don't know which skills to teach her in order... So am glad we are going through this.
Here are a few skills we worked on tonight:
"GENTLE", "SIT" "RELEASE" Loose leash, "LEAVE IT"
How to keep her from jumping & pulling too. Over all she did very well... to cover as much as we did. There was alot she will learn from tonights' class.
We are to bring an item she is not to bother, such as an old shoe next week and to practice practice practice what we've learned the last two weeks. Some of last week will mainly be practiced through her everyday living. Mainly her pooint is to use what we learn. Application is how the skills will be reinforced, I am sure if they aren't used she would not retain what shse has learned. ( I saw somewhere the repetative lessons is how they learn... it isn't absorbed by just doing the command once or twice... and to be able to recall it 6 weeks from now... with out all that fun practice. Making is fun and not to long of sessions is one thing that I found is how she is progressing too.

During the times Gypsy wasn't interested or was tired or was to full for treats I would not force her to train dilagately...

I did find that switching to play time and working with her while playing she was still benificail to her too. The interaction and bonding is wonderful. It builds trust, loyalty, companionship, healthy exercixse for both of us... though hard to keep up with a puppies energy... I'm not in shape for her marathons hahaha...
She is tuckered out she had a long day...

She still got a lil car sick but doesn't seem to be as bad so hopefully she will grow out of it or get used to riding. Today mid day I did give her a drink of water while I was restricting her intake. She had played hard out side and was tristy... I may have given her to much I am not sure. Still it wasn't as much as what I know she had. (It was only watery of what she had lost)
I did find some candied ginger... and this may have helped too. I am hoping... For lil Gypsy girl *..*

During the week I have still been working with her on the car situtation. Maybe it is helping.

Well for now I will close ... torrow morning I am going to read my homework assignment... and we may go out for a playtime with my friend. They are going to be out of town... so would like to see them before they leave.

    Have a great weekend

I read all your posts on Gwen's website, so I started reading our blog, and I love hearing about raising little Gypsy! You and Gwen have inspired me to start my own puppy blog to record every moment of little Zelda's life. I hop you read it too, puppyzelda.blogspot.com, and we can share our puppy raising together!

    Good luck with your baby!

This morning Gypsy woke up with alot of congestion in her chest... I took her to the vets', She put her on medicine for 10 days. Says it was good I brought her in, says it is much easier to treat them at first, and not to let it linger, hoping it would subside. Expecailly young and in this crazy Indiana weather. She also said maybe not take her to puppy class friday, not to expose the other pups, I agreed... And she said we will probably re-schedule her spaying Because The antibotics will be overlapping on March 28th. Again I agree.
She will be fine... She said it would be ok to still take her out to potty... but not to keep her out to long.
I was glad I could get her in today, w/o the doctor charging me a ER bill. But I truly felt she needed to go in... I am glad we went in... I am still very new at this puppy mommie-ing... so I not worrying as much. :)
(I am glad she has had her first 2 booster shots, because as fast as this came on I would really be worrying. )

    Poor Gypsy! :(
How could you tell she was congested? I need to know the signs, just in case!
Good luck on her spaying. I jsut got Zelda spayed, and the first night she was a mess. She was so groggy and in pain. She wouldn't eat, and I couldn't give her the pain meds until she ate, otherwise she would jsut throw up. Which she had been doing a lot since we picked her up! I was so scared and worried. Luckily my boyfriend was with our friend Corey (our vet) so i called every 5 mintues asking what i should do. Luckily, she was back to normal the next day, jsut a little sleepy. 6 days later, she's totally back to her old self, just in time for her first puppy class tomorrow!

    Hi Steph & Zelda
I could hear the wheezinf and crackle sound in her breathing. Kinda like a human when we get a chest cold.

Her bark sounded "horse" but didn't think anything of it (the night becaue... Because she had barked the evening before quite a bit) I didn't notice any slow down with her. As far as just laying around not doing anything I mean. She was playig and eating normal , seemed ok. But too she coughed and I noticed it big time.
That is when I got on the phone and called the vets'.

Oh wow that is cool you get to go to puppy classes too. I was wondering how you like them and how was kidergarten classes go? I hope you & Zelda will enjoy it as much as we have.
